In brief: The CAS ETH in Applied Information Technology  

The programme provides non-IT managers with a targeted information technology education in order to prepare them for greater responsibility in technology-driven companies.

Structure and content

Programme description

Participants of the CAS ETH in Applied Information Technology (CAS ETH AIT) will learn to apply selected information technologies in specific industry settings through fundamental training in computer and data science and review of practical applications using case studies. Modules 1 and 2 offer a practical introduction to basic concepts and techniques for information processing and working with data.

Module 3 covers visual information processing and human computer interactions. Module 4 uses case studies to show the practical implementations of technologies.

Objectives

Participants gain an understanding of how information technologies are applied to products and operations in their industry, with an emphasis on new technologies that will have significant impact within the next five years, and to communicate effectively with technical specialists.

Professional perspectives

Graduates of the CAS ETH AIT are able to take on more challenging leadership roles in interdisciplinary projects with significant information technology components and to extend their existing management skills to include managing information technology specialists.

Structure and format

Participants complete 5 modules over 14 weeks. Classes are generally conducted in either a block format or blended learning format. Studyload is approximately 300 hours, including lectures, study time and performance assessments.

Additional information

The CAS ETH AIT is the first CAS in the Master of Advanced Studies ETH in Applied Technology (MAS ETH AT) programme.

Limited number of participants: Admission is based on programme-​specific admissions criteria and/or the constitution of the respective group of applicants.

Target group

Managers with a non-IT education and a minimum of five years of professional experience in a relevant industry. Target participants include managers working in finance, marketing, strategy and other non-technical departments.

Requirements

Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or an equivalent educational qualification plus relevant management experience after graduation.

CHF 50 for persons with a Swiss university degree, CHF 150 for persons with another university degree (non-​refundable, credit card payment only)

Withdrawal fee

  • Withdrawal within 30 days after admission and before the beginning of the programme: free of charge
  • Withdrawal more than 30 days after the admission date and before the beginning of the programme: CHF 2,000
  • Withdrawal after the beginning of the programme: CHF 8,500
