In brief: The MAS ETH in Nutrition and Health  

In-depth and dynamic continuing education programme on the links between food, nutrition, health and disease.

Structure and content

Programme description

Natural scientists are offered an advanced education, the MAS ETH in Nutrition and Health (MAS ETH NH), that gives a broad overview on aspects of food and nutrition, their influence on health, and their potential for prevention of diseases. This also includes in-depth knowledge in physiology of eating, nutrition related toxicology, nutrigenomics as well as research methodologies related to nutrition.

Objectives

MAS ETH NH graduates are trained to distinguish and understand problems of nutrition while continuing to work in their field of expertise. Depending on this field of expertise, jobs can be expected in nutrition research, nutrition teaching, nutrition journalism and different sections of the food industry.

Professional perspectives

  • General: Nutrition research; nutrition teaching at different levels; nutrition journalism.
  • Public Health Area: Governmental or non-governmental organisations detecting and monitoring nutrition related health problems; designing and implementing health strategies; providing information related to nutrition and health.
  • Food industry: Nutrition research or product development to design food with health benefit.
  • Pharmacy: Consulting customers on nutrition and nutrition related diseases.

Structure and format

Min. of 35 ECTS from a choice of 15 compulsory courses, 5 ECTS from a choice of 10 optional courses, 1 week laboratory analysis, Master Thesis.

Completion of programme in one year: 100 % work load, completion in two years: 50 % work load.

Graduates with a Master’s degree or equivalent in natural science, medical doctors and pharmacists.

Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or equivalent educational qualifications. General study language is English.
