In brief: The CAS ETH in Applied Technology in Energy  

The programme provides non-technical managers with a targeted technology education in energy and electrification in order to prepare them for greater responsibility in technology-driven companies.

Structure and content

Programme description

Participants of the CAS ETH in Applied Technology in Energy (CAS ETH ATE) learn how energy supply and use is changing from a science and technology perspective with an emphasis on technology applications that impact many industries and types of products. The programme consists of four modules covering energy science fundamentals, energy transport, energy storage and energy applications in industry.

Objectives

Participants learn how energy technologies are applied to products and operations in multiple industries (with an emphasis on new technologies that will have significant impact within the next five years), and to communicate more effectively with technical specialists.

Professional perspectives

Graduates of the CAS ETH ATE are able to take on more challenging leadership roles in interdisciplinary projects with significant energy and electrification components and to extend their existing management skills to include managing energy related specialists.

Structure and format

Participants complete 4 modules over 14 weeks. Classes are generally conducted in either a block format or blended learning format. Study load is approximately 300 hours, including lectures, study time and performance assessments.

The CAS ETH ATE is the third CAS in the Master of Advanced Studies ETH in Applied Technology (MAS ETH AT) programme.

Target group and admission

Target group

Managers with limited technical background and a minimum of five years working experience in a relevant industry. Target participants include managers working in finance, marketing, strategy and other non-technical departments.

Requirements

Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or an equivalent educational qualification plus relevant management experience after graduation.
