In brief: The MAS ETH in Medical Physics

This in Switzerland unique continuous education programme provides knowledge in the growing field of medical physics, which resides at the interfaces between physics, engineering, biology and medicine.

Structure and content

Programme description

The MAS ETH in Medical Physics (MAS ETH MP) provides a multitude of possibilities for continuing education in this field, especially the following topics are represented in the programme: anatomy and physiology, biostatistics, biomedical imaging, audiological acoustics, biomedical photonics, biomedical engineering, radiation therapy, radiation protection, radiobiology, biomechanics, biocompatible materials, neuroinformatic, bioelectronic, molecular biology and biophysics, as well as topics in the area of clinical medicine.

Objectives

The MAS aims in convey a comprehensive continuous education in all important subjects of medical physics. Thereby the different areas of natural science and medicine will be combined in an interdisciplinary and synergetic manner. A dedicated option supports the preparation to receive the SSRMP board certification in medical physics.

Professional perspectives

Graduates of the MAS programme in Medical Physics are prepared for challenging tasks and positions in the following areas: medical physics in the clinic (radio-oncology, nuclear medicine, diagnostic, ophthalmology, audiology etc.); medical physics in the industry and the administration (research and development, radiation protection, education), medical physics in research and education in the disciplines physics, biomedical engineering, medicine, biology, informatics etc.

Structure and format

The part time studies of the MAS ETH in Medical Physics consists of a basic study programme in the first year and a specialisation programme in the second year. As specialisation one of the following two can be selected:

  • A) radiation therapy
  • B) general medical physics
