In brief: The DAS ETH in Regenerative Materials
The programme is focused on earth, bio-based and reused materials and construction techniques. Prerequisite is to complete two CAS ETH in Regenerative Materials.
Structure and content
Programme description
This programme provides students tools and methods to manage projects using earth, bio-based and reused materials with efficiency and creativity. It combines two CAS ETH in Regenerative Materials followed by a thesis. The DAS is defined by two possible subjects: "Structural Specialisation" or "Hygrothermal Specialisation".
Objectives
The objective is to impart results-oriented skills relevant to conduct complex projects using earth, bio-based and re-used materials. Programme teaching combines complementary methods based on active learning to ensure an efficient and durable impact on participants’ professional development. The longterm strategy of the programme is to further the dissemination of rigorous information on Regenerative Materials, and to strengthen the network of players in this field over a wide range.
Professional perspectives
On completion of the programme participants will be able to plan and calculate the performances of building structures or envelops made of earth and bio-based and re-used materials. The main tools available will be analysed and used through exercises based on existing case studies, visits to example buildings and analysis of technical details. Graduates may take advantage of new professional opportunities in architectural or engineering offices, control agencies or construction companies.
Structure and format
The programme consists of two CAS ETH in Regenerative Materials and a thesis (corresponding to a one-month full time work). It combines six complementary teaching methods: theoretical and experimental lectures; digital guest lectures (public); hands-on exercises; visits to inspiring projects; participative engagement; and project-based learning.
Additional information
To foster intensive interaction and high-quality learning, a limited number of professionals are selected for this programme. The selection is based on the candidate’s field, level of expertise, and prospective future impact on the respective field. The supervision of the personal work promotes dynamic interaction between the participant and the teaching team. The subject of this work and the experts in charge of the supervision are chosen after the second CAS. The thesis will be presented in front of a jury at the end of the semester following the second CAS.

Target group and admission
Target group
The programme addresses the needs of professionals who want to deepen and question their existing practice in order to develop more regenerative approaches. Its target groups include structural or HVAC engineers and building contractors, architects, project managers, NGOs and company representatives.
Requirements
Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or equivalent educational qualifications. Because some calculations require complex modelling, a basis in structural calculation is expected. The completion of two CAS in Regenerative Materials is required.
