The programme provides the fundamental knowledge and strategical thinking related to the modelling, the seismic evaluation and the seismic retrofitting of existing structures located in Switzerland.

Structure and content

Programme description

The CAS ETH in Seismic Evaluation and Retrofitting (CAS ETH SER) focuses on the seismic design of new structures and the seismic evaluation and retrofitting of existing structures located in Switzerland. The presentation of the optimal modelling strategies, analysis methods and practical engineering solutions for the seismic design and evaluation of structures lies at the core of the CAS ETH SER. The teaching material of the Programme comprises case study examples of buildings in Switzerland, Group Projects, material and exercises for individual study and construction site visits.

Objectives

The goal of the programme is to provide the fundamental knowledge for the individual conduction of seismic design of a new structure and the seismic evaluation and retrofit of an existing structure located in Switzerland.

Professional perspectives

Graduates of the programme will be able to lead civil engineering projects of the public or private sector related to: Modelling of the dynamic and seismic behaviour of structures, Planning/Consulting of the seismic design of new structures and the seismic evaluation and retrofit of existing structures located in Switzerland.
