The programme enables participants to build expertise in entrepreneurial strategy as well as strengthen their leadership skills required to establish and grow technology-based ventures.

Programme description

CAS ETH in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Technology Ventures (CAS ETH ELTV) highlights: 

  1. Core Knowledge – Combining research-based insights with skill-based workshops to impart the necessary knowledge to create technology ventures.
  2. Leadership Development – Preparing participants to spearhead a team of people toward success.
  3. Business Coaching – Defining a clear roadmap and reviewing progress in 1-1 sessions.
  4. Building Community – Learning from peers in a cohort, even after the programme concludes.

Objectives

The CAS ETH ELTV aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial mind-set and leadership capability of participants with predominantly scientific backgrounds. The programme prepares participants to create and manage technology ventures while providing opportunities to build strong networks with other start-up owners and ecosystem players.

Professional perspectives

Successful graduates will be able to leverage their knowledge and skills for a number of professional opportunities in technology-based enterprises. Participants may take up roles as founders, CEOs or other top management team members in technology start-ups, or advance in their careers as corporate entrepreneurs, innovation project leaders, or technology strategists in established technology companies.

Structure and format

The CAS ETH ELTV is a part-time programme including asynchronous content (learning at your own pace); fifteen days of in-person classes (five modules: Thursday–Saturday); a three-day study trip off-campus; and a custom-tailored coaching programme focusing on business development.

  • Five Core Knowledge modules: Entrepreneurial Strategies, Entrepreneurial Leadership & Teams, Entrepreneurial Marketing & Sales, New Venture Finance & Legal, Business Models for Sustainability & Growth
  • Two Leadership Coaching modules: Leadership Development, and Personal Branding & Storytelling
  • One custom-tailored business coaching track, led by experienced coaches.
  • Method of Instruction: "blended learning"; participants prepare key knowledge components online; the in-person classes are used to reflect on these materials, discuss with peers and faculty, and apply the new knowledge in interactive exercises

Attendance of individual courses

If space permits, individual modules of the CAS can be attended against a pro-​rata fee by persons who are not enrolled in the CAS. Admission will be decided based on the application dossier.

Target group and admission

Target group

Aspiring entrepreneurs who are actively developing technology-based business opportunities and/or setting up technology ventures (e.g. ETH Pioneer Fellows).

Early-career professionals in technology businesses who aim to sharpen their entrepreneurial mind-set and expand their leadership capabilities.

Requirements

Master’s degree recognised by ETH, or equivalent qualification. Candidates should be involved in the set-​up and management of a technology-​based venture, or else provide documentation of their strong interest and affinity to the CAS theme.

CHF 9,200 for Pioneer Fellows (additional rates for Pioneer Partners available)
CHF 13,930 for all other participants

Application fee

CHF 50 for persons with a Swiss university degree, CHF 150 for persons with another university degree (non-​refundable, credit card payment only)

Withdrawal fee

  • Within 30 days after the admission date: free of charge
  • More than 30 days after the admission date: CHF 4,000
