In brief: The CAS ETH in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Technology Ventures

The programme enables participants to build expertise in entrepreneurial strategy as well as strengthen their leadership skills required to establish and grow technology-based ventures.

Structure and content

Programme description

The CAS ETH in Entrepreneurial Leadership in Technology Ventures (CAS ETH ELTV) develops expertise in bringing technological innovations to the market and leading entrepreneurial ventures. It is tailored to innovative and deep-tech ventures and their specific challenges: complexity, uncertainty, and high resource needs. Participants benefit from training rooted in cutting-edge research insights, interactive peer learning, and custom-tailored coaching to further develop their business and in becoming effective entrepreneurial leaders.

Objectives

The programme aims to strengthen the entrepreneurial mind-set, aspirations, leadership capability, and strategising skills of participants with predominantly scientific or engineering backgrounds. The CAS ETH ELTV prepares participants to create and manage technology ventures while at the same time providing opportunities to build strong networks with other start-up owners and ecosystem players.

Professional perspectives

Successful graduates will be able to leverage their knowledge and skills for a number of professional opportunities in technology-based enterprises. Participants may take up roles as founders, CEOs or other top management team members in technology start-ups, or advance in their careers as corporate entrepreneurs, innovation project leaders, or technology strategists in established technology companies.

Structure and format

The programme has 4 building blocks: ten days of core knowledge building (five modules Thursday/Friday); a one-week study trip to another entrepreneurial ecosystem; and two custom-tailored coaching programmes – one focuses on business/start-up development and the other on personal leadership capabilities (5 days in-person: Saturday in conjunction with knowledge modules).

Additional information

  • Method of Instruction: A key feature of the CAS is its use of "blended learning" – wherein participants access key knowledge components online to study at their own speed at home. The in-class meetings will then be used to discuss key issues and problems and reflect on the material studied and prepared. Through a blended approach, the on-campus time is used to meet your peers and the lecturers to discuss professional challenges and solutions and apply knowledge in interactive exercises.
  • Contemporary executive education methods: Interactive classes with an application-focused style of instruction.
  • Five knowledge modules: Entrepreneurial Strategies, Entrepreneurial Leadership and Teams, Entrepreneurial Marketing & Sales, New Venture Finance & Legal, Scaling New Ventures & Sustainable Business Models.
  • A study trip: Four days of immersion in another entrepreneurial ecosystem, with practical workshops on developing leadership skills and exploring effective communication. Focus on peer learning.
  • Custom coaching and mentoring: During the entire CAS, custom-tailored coaching by accomplished and experienced professionals.
