In brief: The CAS ETH in AI and Software Development

The programme provides a targeted education in software, machine learning and AI to managers without prior formal training in computer science to advance their career.

Structure and content

Programme description

Participants of the CAS ETH in AI and Software Development (CAS ETH AIS) learn to apply key computer science concepts in specific industry settings with three study modules:

  • Programming with Python: learn to code with regular one-on-one meetings for support.
  • Software Engineering Fundamentals: an end-to-end introduction to the core techniques used for building quality software.
  • Building ML/AI applications: fundamental training in areas of machine learning that enable AI applications with an introduction to LLMs and NLP as an industry relevant example.

Objectives

The main goal of this programme is to improve the decision-making of managers by providing them with fundamental training in the areas of machine learning and software that is applicable across multiple industries and areas of the organisation.

Professional perspectives

Graduates of the CAS ETH AIS can take on more challenging leadership roles in interdisciplinary projects with significant computer science components. They also extend their existing management skills to include managing staff and projects involving the development of software and ML/AI applications.

Structure and format

Participants complete 3 modules over 14 weeks. Classes are generally conducted in either a block format or blended learning format. Study workload is approximately 250 hours, including lectures, study time and performance assessments.

Target group and admission

Target group

Managers with a non-IT education and a minimum of five years of professional experience in a relevant industry. Target participants include managers working in finance, marketing, strategy, and other non-technical departments.

Requirements

Master's degree acknowledged by ETH or an equivalent educational qualification plus relevant management experience after graduation.

CHF 50 for persons with a Swiss university degree, CHF 150 for persons with another university degree (non-​refundable, credit card payment only)

Withdrawal fee

  • Withdrawal within 30 days after admission and before the beginning of the programme: free of charge
  • Withdrawal more than 30 days after the admission date and before the beginning of the programme: CHF 2,000
  • Withdrawal after the beginning of the programme: CHF 8,500
