New tools for peace mediation: MAS ETH in Mediation in Peace Processes introduces innovative materials

The MAS ETH in Mediation in Peace Processes (MAS ETH MPP) programme has introduced a series of multimedia tools designed to help mediators worldwide refine their skills and make peace processes more effective.

The new package includes four key components:

  1. Mediation skills card set: A set of 34 cards that convey key competencies in communication, attitude, and process structuring. The cards can be .
  2. Video demonstrations of micro-skills: In exclusive video interviews, renowned mediators Zaza Elsheikh and Christopher Moore exemplify using micro-skills such as asking questions and reframing and share their experiences on key competencies such as empathic listening, non-verbal communication, and managing conflict situations. They also provide practical tips for aspiring mediators.
  3. Animated mediation model: A visual introduction to the Five Phase Model of Mediation which explains the structured flow of a mediation process. The animation is available in multiple languages, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Russian and Spanish.
  4. Two enacted documentaries show practical mediations: The enacted documentaries showcase expert mediators Zaza Elsheikh and Christopher Moore mediating simulated disputes. One focusing on a neighborhood dispute and the other on a conflict between a mining company and a local community. The films demonstrate the application of the five phases of mediation and relevant micro-skills in realistic scenarios. The video with Zaza Elsheikh also includes graphic annotations highlighting dozens of key mediator decisions and practices.
