In brief: The DAS ETH in Military Sciences  

Military sciences are not offered at any other Swiss university. The programme offers (as part of the Swiss Armed Forces' professional officer training) unique fundamental knowledge in this field.

Structure and content

Programme description

The DAS ETH in Military Sciences (DAS ETH MILWISS) provides the students with a foundation in security policy and military sciences. The following fields are on the curriculum: security policy (different aspects), military psychology and pedagogy, leadership, military sociology, strategic studies, military history and economics of defense.

Objectives

On completion of DAS ETH MILWISS Swiss and foreign career officers are capable of basing their demanding leadership functions on the above-​mentioned knowledge. DAS MILWISS provides officers with the required competences in analysing and assessing complex issues.

Structure and format

The Continuing Education Programme lasts 2 semesters and is run during the Autumn and Spring Semester on 5 half days per week at ETH Zurich. The programme is identical with selected course units of the Bachelor Study Course BA in Public Policy (career officers) at ETH Zurich.

The 2-​semester programme at ETH is part of the 18-​month Diploma Course (DLG) run by the Military Academy at ETH Zurich (external pageMILAKcall_made).

Credits

A minimum of 41 ECTS credits, a maximum of 51 ECTS credits.

Requirements

Terms of admission for the Diploma Course DLG at the Military Academy at ETH Zurich in accordance with MoD (VBS) admission criteria, in addition to university degree or degree of university of applied sciences as well as sufficient knowledge of German language.
