Good and bad decisions
On average, executives spend 40 % of their time making decisions. Good decisions drive company performance, and bad decisions can be fatal. But good decisions matter in every walk of life. Should I marry my long-standing partner, or continue dating? How should we raise our kids? Should I continue my career at my current employer, or make a change?
If you have seen the movie «Along Came Polly» you may remember a scene where Reuben (played by Ben Stiller) is unable to decide with which of two women (one played by Jennifer Aniston) he wants to spend the rest of his life with. As an actuary, he uses a list of criteria with weighting factors, and yet finds himself unable to decide.
What helps in decision making?
Reuben is not alone. It is not a coincidence that when making decision daily, you are not using traditional decision-making tools such as scenario planning or decision trees. It’s because they are not that helpful. Yet, you still make several decisions daily. In the mini-course we will explore how the human brain (partly consciously, largely unconsciously) makes decisions, and how you can optimise your cognitive processes to make better decisions.
With this event, we give you a taste of the emba X Personal Development Programme, an important part of the Executive MBA der ETH Zurich and the University of St.Gallen. The session will be followed by networking and apéro.
Attendance is free, but you need to register by September 24th.
