Planning a short format
Are you a member of ETH and planning a short format (short continuing education course or microcredential)? We would be glad to help you, and to publish the course on our website.
See here for the most important points on the planning, implementation and evaluation of your short format. In addition to a course registration platform, we provide you with checklists and other aids.
What is a short format?
A short format (short continuing education courses or microcredentials) is one- or multi-day course which is intended mainly for non-ETH specialists. It comprises fewer than 10 ECTS credits.
What is a short continuing education course?
A short continuing education course (WBK) is a one- or multi-day course at academic level, aimed primarily at a specialist audience outside ETH Zurich and conducted or co-conducted under the responsibility of an ETH professor. A WBK can also be organised in collaboration with another university or, for example, in cooperation with professional or industry associations. Modules from MAS, DAS or CAS programmes that can be attended individually are also short continuing education courses. Participants receive a certificate of attendance but no ECTS credits.
What is a microcredential?
A microcredential (MC) consists of one or more learning units and compact, specific learning content. Successful participation in the MC is confirmed with a microcredential certificate.
To obtain the microcredential certificate, proof of performance must always be provided.
A microcredential can be credited towards a larger format (e.g. a CAS) if applicable.
